Quality Prevails
The name of the restaurant ''Nagomi 和味" has 2 meanings:
The Japanese Kanji letters stand for authentic taste and its pronunciation means cozy and serenity.
Sushi Bar Nagomi opened its door in November of 2008 to offer authentic Japanese cuisine that is appealing to those who truly enjoy food. Sushi is technically such a simple dish yet needs a profound technique to execute. For that reason, we are particular about freshness, quality fish and ingredients, and perfectly cooked fluffy sushi rice. Needless to say, we prepare fish and dishes in-house as much as possible.

On The WayChef, Hiro Funaki disembarked in Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast, British Columbia in September of 1999 with his experience of Japanese cuisine from his home country, Japan.
Originally working in restaurants and hotels in Tokyo area, he made his way to 4 years-journey in Asia and North America. On the way of travels, he absorbed different food culture and he found that Gibsons is the place where he wants to stay for the beauty of nature and the community that has similar vibes to his hometown. He had been looking for a place to open up his own sushi bar on and off ever since. And he finally found a small space in Gibsons Landing in 2008. During this period of time, he had worked at several Japanese restaurants in Vancouver and now he introduces newly adopted techniques into his traditional styles of Japanese cuisine. This is just the beginning of his dream which offers the space of ''Nagomi'' where people gather for food and drinks with friends. And his pride and passion in Japanese cuisine are dedicated to this tiny gem. |
The Turning Point
After 8 years of dedicated hard work, Sushi Bar Nagomi finally moved to new location that is locally known as The Pink House in January of 2017.
The building was built in 1945 and had been a residential house until 1994. Not sure when it was painted pink and people started calling it "Pink House". However, this historic building is greatly attached and adding charm to this town for certain. The interior of new space featuring unique low-ceiling designed with the essence of Japanese architecture offers intimate warm atmosphere. Extended outside deck is made of local cedar and brings privacy and enjoyment to watch activity on the main street of Gibsons Landing. |
